What did women’s work look like in the Middle Ages, and when does it become visible to historians? Professor Sarah Ifft Decker will discuss her award-winning book, “The Fruit of Her Hand: Jewish and Christian Women’s Work in Medieval Catalan Cities,” and new research on gender, work, and legal culture. A combination of case studies and quantitative evidence illuminates the lived experiences of medieval women and nuances our understanding of gender and religious difference in the medieval Iberian Peninsula.
