Ritual and the Origins of Maya Society with Dr. Jessica MacLellan
Join us at the Timothy S. Y. Lam Museum of Anthropology from 6-7pm for a lecture on the Rituals and Origins of Maya Society. The Indigenous Maya people of modern Mexico and Central America conduct many rituals that can be traced back to ancient Maya practices. For the Lam Museum’s annual recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day, new Wake Forest Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Dr. Jessica MacLellan, will give an overview of Maya rituals and her research into the roles those activities played in the development of Maya society around 1000 BC – AD 300. She will also address the ways archaeologists are working to make their research more meaningful to descendant Maya communities today. Admission is free.
