Intensive Summer Language Institute

Overview

The Intensive Summer Language Institute, or ISLI, on the WFU campus offers students a chance to complete both SPA 153 and SPA 213 during the first summer session. SPA 153 is an accelerated five-week course in an immersion setting. It aims particularly to meet the needs of students who wish to develop a greater confidence in Spanish fast. The SPA 213 course fulfills the University’s foreign language requirement in Spanish. It’s an exploration of significant cultural expressions from the Spanish-speaking world.

Students develop intermediate proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They are also able to fulfill their foreign language requirement in record time. Through immersion in language and cultural experiences, students develop greater confidence and improve their listening and speaking skills. A high faculty to student ratio, with three instructors and about ten students per class, allows for highly individualized instruction and a very successful atmosphere for learning.

Due to the intensive nature of the program, SPA 112 or SPA 113 (or equivalent) is required. Permission of instructor is also acceptable.
