Dr. Claudia Valdez received her B.A. in Linguistics from Universidad de Sonora, Mexico, her M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics from The University of Arizona, where she also pursued a Ph.D. in Spanish (Border Studies). Her areas of teaching interests include Hispanic Linguistics, Language Socialization, Sociolinguistics, Discourse Analysis, Spanish in contact with other languages, and Latino immigration in the United States. She has published articles on Phonology, The Gestural Origin of Language, The American Imaginary on the Mexican Revolution, Language Choice in Service Encounters, etc. In her free time, she likes creating art, trying to refresh her Portuguese, and spending time with her family and dogs.
