Medical Spanish
Carmen Pérez-Muñoz is a native of Sevilla (Spain) and a graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has experience teaching a wide variety of courses on Spanish language, literature, and culture at all levels. She specializes in Medical Spanish and teaches courses in this area both for the Undergraduate College and the School of Medicine at Wake, where she’s the Associate Director of MAESTRO (Medical Spanish certificate program). She’s also involved with the National Association of Medical Spanish (NAMS), working on the standardization of Medical Spanish teaching across the US. She’s particularly interested in the role of Medical Spanish training as a tool to eliminate and prevent health inequalities. Prior to Wake, she taught at the School of Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill, the UNC School of Public Health, and A.T. Still University of Health Sciences.
