Samanta Strelzer, WFU ’20

Wake Forest University Alum, Samantha Strelzer (’20), a Spanish and Political Science & International Affairs double major, was awarded the Richter Scholarship and Grant in 2019. She then traveled to Spain to conduct interviews in Spanish with government and healthcare officials about the success of health outcomes in the Catalonian region as compared to the rest of Spain. On May 1, 2023, Strelzer published her research in the Columbia University Journal for Global Health! Check out the article here. Congratulations, Samantha!

Of her experiences in Spain and her time at WFU, Strelzer said, “It allowed me to coalesce a narrative between my studies in the pre-medical track, Spanish major and Political Science major when many people often wondered how they all worked together. Yet, there, I truly lived the Spanish language, allowing me to become more fluent and capitalize on my learnings from the classroom and experiences in Cuba with Dr. Linda Howe to really be able to successfully conduct interviews and learn from those around me in Spain. I am eternally grateful for my Richter experience and my major in Spanish at Wake, and it has certainly informed my career and focus.”
